Dear Customer,
From the 3rd July 2021, the EU Directive on the elimination of single-use plastic products came into effect. Minister for the Environment, Eamon Ryan (TD) signed regulations bringing into effect the prohibition of the first of these single-use plastic products in Ireland. This is the beginning of the process to eliminate all single-use plastic products in Ireland & the EU by 2030 and the EU target of having all plastic packaging placed on the market being recyclable by 2030. More details on the Irish Government position in relation to single-use plastics can be found at gov. ie - Single-use Plastics (www.gov.ie)

For some years now, Merenda has been supplying you with Melamine edgebanding that has been shrink-wrapped in what is effectively a single-use plastic cover. To do our part to support Ireland’s efforts to improve our natural environment and remove single-use plastic from our lives, from 1st October, we will discontinue this packaging process on our melamine edgebanding. In advance of this, we will make contact to discuss your ongoing requirements around labeling, etc. so your product experience is affected as little as possible.
This move away from single-use plastics at Merenda is part of our bigger efforts to run the business in a sustainable way and reduce our carbon footprint on the environment upon which we depend. Aside from our recycled wood waste briquettes and FSC certification which have been in place for many years, other environmentally conscious changes made in the last 2 years include:
