Historically, the perception was that real timber interior mouldings were essential for that “high end” finish to an interior fitout. It was assumed that because real timber mouldings are significantly more expensive, they must be required to ensure an integrated look across doors, skirting, architraves and cornices. This is not true.
In reality, this look can be achieved more easily and more cost effectively by using a better performing product; veneer wrapped profiles using the substrate MDF. It’s also easier to install, so the joiner will be saving their client time and money.
Using MDF wrapped mouldings with the look and feel of solid, veneer wrapped profiles are now typical components in the manufacture of modern furniture and building interiors.
Applications can include furniture decor, wall and ceiling panels or doorframes and architraves. Veneer can be wrapped on to a diverse range of base substrates, but MDF is the most common. The wrapping veneer can be chosen from an infinite variety of veneers including natural, exotic or dyed.
MDF stands for medium density fibreboard and is a high-grade composite material. It is made from wooden logs which are stripped of their bark and made into chips. Then resin is added before it is dried and machine pressed, resulting in the finished MDF product. The result is an even product that is dimensionally more stable than timber and can even be made resistant to moisture. Because of its increased stability, it stands up well to heat and humidity. This makes it a stronger alternative to natural wood which splits and cracks under heat.
Once the design has been specified, The MDF is cut to match that profile to suit the particular project or client requirement.
Profile wrap is an excellent solution for a variety of applications. Thicker veneer material can be applied to flat surfaces while the more flexible, compressed veneer wraps which Merenda are experts in can be moulded around the profile of an intricate moulding, adjusting smoothly to its contours.
At Merenda we are able to have any veneer applied to products in a swift and versatile way. With veneer wrapped mouldings, we are able to offer a less expensive finish compared with solid woods while remaining aesthetically beautiful.
Using a well-developed supplier base, we are able to source veneer from a huge variety of veneer species.
